Google Voice is a totally free and efficient mobile utility app that can allocate you a phone number for you to connect and sync to a wide kind of devices so you will never miss any important call. This app offers sophisticated and advanced voice-to-text capabilities, which allows voicemails to be transcribed, saved, or forwarded to various kinds of devices, or sent to your email directly.

Features & Highlights

Google Voice is an incredibly versatile communication tool that caters to both personal and professional needs. Its blend of features provides users with an efficient way to manage calls, texts, and voicemails all in one platform. Here are some standout features that make Google Voice a must-have app:

  • Multiple Phone Numbers: With Google Voice, you can have a separate number for personal and professional use. This is especially useful for freelancers like me who want to keep work and life separate. I often use my Google Voice number when communicating with clients, ensuring that my personal number remains private.
  • Voicemail Transcription: The app automatically transcribes voicemails into text, saving time and allowing me to read messages at a glance. I recently received a voicemail from a client while I was in a meeting, and thanks to this feature, I was able to quickly read the transcription without disrupting my flow.
  • Call Forwarding: Google Voice allows you to forward calls to any number, making it easy to stay connected. Whether I’m working from home or out and about, I can ensure I never miss an important call by forwarding my Google Voice number to my mobile phone.
  • Integration with Other Google Services: The app seamlessly integrates with Google Workspace, making it a great choice for businesses. I use Google Calendar to schedule meetings, and with Google Voice, I can easily dial into conference calls without any hassle.
  • Low International Rates: Google Voice offers competitive rates for international calls, which is a huge advantage for those of us with friends or family overseas. I often call relatives in Europe, and the cost savings compared to traditional carriers have been significant.

Real Experience Using Google Voice

Application Scenarios

As a freelance graphic designer, I rely heavily on effective communication with my clients. Google Voice has become an indispensable tool in my daily routine. For instance, when I land a new project, I use my Google Voice number to communicate project details, share design drafts, and conduct follow-up calls without mixing personal and professional correspondence. Additionally, when I travel, I can still receive calls and messages on my Google Voice number without incurring international roaming charges, making it easier to stay in touch with clients regardless of my location.

User Experience

The user interface of Google Voice is sleek and intuitive. Upon opening the app, I am greeted with a clean layout that makes it easy to navigate between messages, calls, and voicemail. The workflow is straightforward; sending a text or making a call takes just a few taps. I appreciate how quickly voicemails are transcribed, allowing me to prioritize my responses. Performance-wise, the app has been reliable, with minimal lag during calls and swift loading times for messages. Overall, using Google Voice feels natural and efficient, allowing me to focus more on my work rather than on managing communications.

Pricing

Google Voice offers a free tier that’s perfect for individual users, allowing access to core features without any cost. For those who need more advanced functionalities, such as additional numbers or business features, there are paid plans starting at around $10 per month. This pricing is quite competitive, especially when you factor in the cost savings from international calls and the convenience of having a dedicated phone number.

Updates & Support

Google Voice receives regular updates that enhance its features and performance. The app’s support is generally responsive; I’ve encountered a few minor issues, but the help center and community forums were helpful. Additionally, Google's commitment to user feedback means that many updates are based on real user needs, which keeps the app evolving in a positive direction.

Security & Privacy Review

In today’s digital age, security and privacy are paramount, especially for American users concerned about their data. Google Voice is available through reliable app stores like the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that you download a legitimate version of the app. During registration, you are required to provide basic personal information, such as your name and email, which is standard practice for most apps. However, it's important to note that Google has a robust privacy policy that emphasizes user control over personal data.

One concern for many users is tracking behavior and ads. Google Voice does not display ads within the app, which is a relief. Instead, Google may use your data to improve its services and offer personalized experiences, but you can manage your privacy settings within your Google account. Overall, Google Voice strikes a good balance between usability and privacy, making it a trustworthy choice for anyone looking to streamline their communication.

The app works just fine. I use it as my professional number to give to clients. I can't imagine it being better. (edit):Over two years in and I still use the app. It has caller screening, do not disturb that operates independently of your actual number, call recording, and a nice widget for one of your homescreens. The one thing I need, not just want-to-see: the ability to change my Voice number more than once without paying for it.

Google voice has been my go to app for VoIP since day 1. I use it on my laptop with Chrome and have used it on many Android devices with no issues. I like that you get a different number besides your cell number too. I can send unlimited messages, make unlimited calls and receive pics, gifs, and files. When my mobile device doesn't have service somewhere, Google Voice backs me up. Thanks! I highly recommend this app versus text now or telegram. There's no ads, it's free and no scammers!!

I can't see phone #'s anymore after update! Specifically with Voicemail but with Call History too. When I check a voicemail all I get is a name and a message. It helps to see the phone # associated with that name. Especially with Voicemail. My call History too. Everything looks dumbed down like a cheap App. All phone #'s should be available and shown regardless if they are in your Contacts or not. What purpose is there in getting rid of that. It's literally the definition of useful information!

I got a response from this review with links that I can't even use on here.Support can't help me unless I get a developer who can fix the mistake of not letting people see the numbers of those who call them. I can no longer click on a caller and get the number. now it takes you to a separate screen just to give you a look at how long the call was. To get the number I have to copy it then past it somewhere else to see it. it was a pointless move.

What will it take to get the Decline button to work on incoming calls? Honestly, it's been years. Voice feels like such an afterthought of Google. The only thing good about it is the price is right. Consistently terrible call quality, can't text videos, can't compress normal photos. Come on Google. Use AI to make Voice better. I know you've got some.
