Features & Highlights
TomTom - Maps & Traffic stands out in the crowded navigation app market with its impressive suite of features tailored for both everyday users and road warriors alike. Here are some core highlights that truly enhance the user experience:
Real Experience Using TomTom - Maps & Traffic
Application Scenarios
Using TomTom - Maps & Traffic has become a staple in my daily life, especially as a freelance consultant who travels frequently to meet clients. Whether I'm heading to a local coffee shop or embarking on a long-distance drive, the app has proven invaluable. Just last week, I had a client meeting in a neighboring city, and instead of stressing about potential delays, I opened TomTom to check traffic conditions. The app advised me to leave 20 minutes earlier due to a major accident on my usual route. This proactive guidance ensured I arrived on time and made a great impression.
User Experience
The user interface of TomTom - Maps & Traffic is intuitive and user-friendly. Upon launching the app, I’m greeted with a clean layout that makes it easy to input destinations and view map options. The workflow for setting up a route is seamless; I simply type in my destination, and within seconds, I have multiple route options. The app’s performance has been consistently reliable, with quick recalculations when I stray from the suggested path. Overall, I feel confident and secure navigating with TomTom, thanks to its accurate directions and helpful alerts.
Pricing
TomTom - Maps & Traffic offers a free version that includes essential features, making it accessible for casual users. However, for those who desire a more enhanced experience, such as advanced traffic updates and offline maps, a subscription model is available. This pricing structure is reasonable, especially given the app's robust features that can genuinely save time and reduce stress during travel.
Updates & Support
TomTom frequently updates its app to ensure users benefit from the latest features and improvements. Their support is commendable; I once encountered a minor issue with map downloads and reached out for help. The customer service team responded promptly and resolved my issue efficiently. Regular updates and responsive support make me feel confident that my navigation needs are in good hands.
Security & Privacy Review
As an American user, security and privacy are always top of mind when using navigation apps. TomTom - Maps & Traffic is available on both the App Store and Google Play, where it has received positive reviews regarding its reliability and user data handling. The app does require registration, but the personal data needed is minimal, primarily focusing on location data for navigation purposes. I appreciate that TomTom does not bombard users with ads, which can be a significant concern with many free apps. Additionally, the company has a clear privacy policy that outlines how data is used and protected, giving me peace of mind while using the app.

Frequently avoids toll roads when they are the faster route. Setting to avoid toll roads is not enabled. Reported issue weeks ago, no change. Please give us a setting to disable warnings about railroad crossings. OMG for some they are the third most common thing after stop lights and stop signs. It's been a month since my first post, and you're still avoiding (not even presenting) the tollway as an option on a multi state route.

This is quite a nice app to have installed, and it has features that not even Google Maps has for navigation. Unfortunately for me, whenever I try to change the route settings and hit "Save", the route never actually changes; it's as if I hit the cancel button disguised as the Save button. Not to mention the "Give feedback" button also doesn't work for whatever reason. I'm not sure if it's my phone, but these issues should probably be investigated soon.

When using AA, most speed limits in my area are wrong. Map zooms in/out on its own. I mean it zooms way out then back in randomly. Very little places of interest, no extras on map. Edit. Spped limits are still not correct. Says I'm speeding 70 in a 30...come on guys really. Speedometer on screen is not the same as the dash. I have never seen that before and I have used all the nav apps available for AA. you guys are supposed to be the best. This app is half baked.

I really want to like this app as it gets several things right. However, it lags incredibly on my car's center display with Android Auto and it doesn't display anything in the cockpit (next to the speedometer) of my '25 explorer (both Maps and Waze work with that). As a result, I find myself switching back and forth between apps. I hope they get this fixed, because they'd become a clear winner.

Would it be possible to publish the actual fixes in the updates, instead of saying fine tuning something under the hood, then you would know if the same fault appears after the update hadn't been fixed.
